Millie's Tea Room

comfort food at affordable prices

Soon after the building was purchased, in 2013, it became a goal of the board to open a lunchroom. When funding was made available through the Carleton Victoria Community Inclusion Network, the Juniper Community Tea Room was opened for seasonal lunches.

Over time the vision for this room evolved. First, it became a Victorian tea room to appeal to an older demographic, then to the room we have today. This new room was named Millie’s Tea Room in honour of a late board member with an extraordinary volunteer heart. Millie Brooks passed away in 2020, but her legacy continues on as an example for all community members.

We have extended the mandate to include:

breakfast every Saturday morning from March through November

serving lunch Thursdays and Fridays throughout the summer and fall.

The menu includes:

homestyle favorites

homemade desserts

The Community Closet

There are treasures to be found

Soon after the building was purchased in 2013, a board member suggested that a second-hand store would serve a growing need within the community. Shortly after, a major purchase was made from a closing second-hand store, which began the start of our inventory.

As donations poured in, racks were purchased after a department store closed. The additional equipment made it possible to display clothing in a professional, well-organized and attractive way. And now, shelving has been added to better display dishes and kitchenware.

A naming contest was held in 2023 to solidify the store’s presence. The winning name of the contest dubbed our store “The Community Closet”.
